How Automotive Paint Made?

Automotive paint is made by combining a base color with a clear coat. The base color is usually a pigmented colorant, while the clear coat is a transparent resin. Together, these two components create a durable and vibrant finish that can resist wear and tear.

The painting process begins with the base color, which is applied evenly to the surface of the car. Once the base color has been applied, the clear coat is then sprayed over it. This final layer helps to protect the paint and gives it its shine.

How Automotive Paint Made?

The automotive painting process is a multistep process that involves several different types of paint.

Primer: It is the first type of paint applied to the surface of the car. It helps to prepare the surface for the subsequent layers of paint and provides a smooth, even surface for the final paint job.

Basecoat: It is the next type of paint applied. It provides the color and finish for the car.

Clearcoat: It is the final layer of paint applied. It provides a protective layer over the basecoat and helps to give the car a shine.

    Different Types of Automotive Paint

    Poly Urethanes (PU)

PU is also known as Poly Urethane. We use polyurethanes in one form or another every day – at home, in our offices and cars, for sport and leisure activities and on holiday. Polyurethane is a plastic material, which exists in various forms.

It can be tailored to be either rigid or flexible, and is the material of choice for a broad range of end-user applications such as:

    EPOXY

Epoxy, also known as Poly Epoxide, is a polymer that is used to create scratch-resistant protective coatings, fillers, and adhesive products for a variety of applications.

Epoxy resin is viscous when in liquid form, cures quickly, and adheres to a wide range of substrate materials, including wood, metal, glass, concrete, and stone. At its most basic, epoxy is composed of a liquid epoxy resin and a chemical hardener that cures the resin into hardened plastic.

Once hardened, epoxy is extremely strong, dimensionally stable, and chemical-resistant.

    Thermal Sprayed Aluminium (TSA)

TSA is also known as THERMAL SPRAYED ALUMINIUM. TSA is essentially a process of applying metallic coatings to a substrate. These metallic coatings serve two primary purposes: to serve as a sacrificial anode and to serve as a corrosion barrier coating.

TSA can be utilised as a standalone application, or as a key component of programs such as CUI (Corrosion Under Insulation) or coatings program efforts

    Acrylic

Acrylic paints are easy to work with and provide vibrant colors that you can manipulate to form different textures and consistencies.

Acrylic paints are water-based and consist of pigments that are distributed in an acrylic polymer suspension.

So, you have three main components that make up acrylic paints, pigment, acrylic binder, and water.

    QD Enamel Paint

QD Enamel Paint is a quick drying alkyd resin based topcoat. QD Enamel provides a cost effective high gloss coating suitable for industrial applications to metalwork & steelwork where good resistance to petrol, paraffin and mineral oil spillages is required.

    Synthetic Enamel

Synthetic enamel paint has high adherence as they are made from oil. It can provide high gloss and last for a long time.

Synthetic enamel paint can offer glossy as well as matt finishes. The best part about synthetic enamel paint is that it can be applied to all types of primers.

    Nitro-Cellulose (NC Paint)

N.C paint is based on Nitrocellulose, specially modified short oil alkyd resin.

The system is suitably plasticized contains pigments to produce beige shade. Specifically designed to use as a top – coat & also can be used for refinishing purpose.
